About the Initiative

The Students for Kenya Initiative was founded as a mechanism for children in the United States to help youth around the world gain access to books and the equipment and materials needed for extracurricular activities such as sports, music, and art.

These activities are crucial to a child’s development and provide opportunities to develop their skills and interests in different areas, as well as to develop the skills needed to be successful in future endeavors, such as leadership and social and interpersonal skills.

This initiative was started in 2022 by 9-year-old Tomi Dobbs of Lexington, Massachusetts, USA. When they donated books to Faith Kenya Mission America and Kenya Literacy Initiative to raise awareness of the importance of helping others better their lives. Through this gesture, Tomi realized that children & students in Kenya lacked access to books. The students have been instrumental in launching innovative of book donations and collecting funds toward clean water and sanitation for children in Kenya.

One Child-One Dream-One Book-One Donation can lead to lifelong success.

Become a Sponsor

We are the beneficiaries of many great sponsors. From Bob, pictured on the right, who has donated more books from his bookstore than any other donor we have, to countless libraries, stores, and organizations that give books. We are also grateful for our individual donors, as well as those who provide us with critical grant dollars.

As you’ve seen from our website, our work is broad and far-reaching. We rely heavily on volunteers, but we still have many expenses to run this organization. Just think of the cost of shipping containers each year to get our donated books into the hands of so many halfway across the world! Each shipping container costs $22,000! We hope to send 40 this year alone.

We need your support! The lives, livelihoods, and education of so many people depend on us, and we depend on you to help us reach our mission.

We have sponsorship opportunities ranging from $1,000 to $25,000, and from in-kind books to gifts of cash, checks, or cards. We are in your debt, and we are grateful. Thank you for supporting us!

Volunteer With Us

Volunteers are at the core of our service offerings. We rely on people who donate their time at every stage of our programs. We benefit from our friends in the homeless community who help us load, pack, and move books. We benefit from a crew that helps us set up and deliver books in Kenya and people who join us in our missions.

We have opportunities to volunteer at events, book drives or help with any number of administrative tasks.

You simply need to contact us so we can learn about you and your skills and match you up with the opportunities at hand!

You Can Make a Difference!
