Empowering Communities with Sustainable Water Solutions

At ACK Mtito-Andei, Literacy And Water Movement has implemented a transformative water project designed to provide clean, sustainable water to the school and surrounding community. The water, sourced from a deep borehole, is distributed to various points, including the school kitchen, dormitory, storage facilities, and the local market. This project not only ensures a reliable supply of water but also promotes better health, education, and economic opportunities for over 4,763 community members and 700 students.

Supporting Student Health and Learning

The reliable water supply has had a significant impact on education at ACK Mtito-Andei. With clean water available for the kitchen and dormitories, students are healthier and better equipped to focus on their studies. The burden of long walks to fetch water has been eliminated for many students, giving them more time to concentrate on learning and participate in extracurricular activities.

Providing Water for Wildlife

The water project at ACK Mtito-Andei also plays a vital role in environmental conservation. Special water troughs have been constructed for wild animals that live alongside the community, ensuring that they have access to water, especially during the dry seasons. This reduces human-wildlife conflict, fostering a balanced coexistence between local wildlife and the people of Mtito-Andei.

Sustaining the Project and Supporting the Community

The water from the ACK Mtito-Andei borehole is available to the local community at an affordable rate, ensuring that the project remains sustainable while meeting the essential needs of residents. The water supply supports:

  • Increased student enrollment in boarding schools: With water now readily available, more students are able to board, reducing the need for long morning walks to access water.
  • Vegetable gardens: The water enables the planting of vegetable gardens, contributing to improved nutrition for students and community members.
  • Local economy: The market water point allows vendors and residents to access water easily, promoting local trade and productivity.
