Meet Founder, Faith Kiio

“We work to make a long-term impact in the communities we serve”.

Faith Kiio Founder, Faith Kenya Mission America, and Kenya Literacy Partnership Faith Kiio founded Faith Kenya Mission America and Kenya Literacy Partnership to aid struggling communities in Kenya and Massachusetts. Faith was born and raised in the semi-arid Makueni region of Kenya but moved to the United States. Faith started a program in Kenya to serve underprivileged communities that have no access to clean water, healthcare, or education.

Why Did You Start Faith Kenya?

“It all started with cabbage. Well, maybe not…” Said the Founder.

Upon completion of high school, Faith felt her dream of pursuing a college education seemed unattainable, as she was being raised in a low-income, single-parent family. Instead, she helped her single mother and four siblings by selling cabbages. Her experience selling cabbage and learning the trade was difficult. She faced many struggles that she was forced to overcome. Faith hustled among seasoned brokers and traders in the market, slept under trucks in the market, and shared her little earnings with the watchmen so that they could keep an eye on her as she slept.

At the break of dawn, she would buy from the first truck to arrive and sell to the first traders to come. She suffered losses at first but soon learned the trade, established good networks, improved her business acumen, and started making money. Then, she saw her first American dollar and thought about what it would be like to live in a land with such a strong currency. She then embarked on her first journey to the United States. Using the proceeds from the sale of cabbages, she managed to pay part of her college tuition fee. Years later, well-educated and established, Faith may have left the life of struggles in Kenya, but she has not forgotten them.

Faith’s experience in Kenya helped her to realize that everyone deserves a chance to make their life better, but that not everyone receives the opportunity to do so like she had. Faith decided that she wanted to provide opportunities to other Kenyans and give back to her native country and Massachusetts. Faith’s mission is to provide opportunities to create a better life for underprivileged families, one person and one project at a time.

Faith believes that if people come together, they can make a difference in the lives of underprivileged families in Kenya.

Saving Kids by Saving Books

“Education is the key to unlocking the world a passport to freedom.” -Oprah Winfrey.

An Excerpt from Tomi’s TEDx Elliot Street Talk given on April 22, 2023:

“When I was three I read THE DEEP BLUE SEA by Audrey Wood. After reading that book I had so many things to write about! I couldn’t wait to learn how.

Once I started writing, I just couldn’t stop. I wrote even when nobody told me to. If no one would play with me on the playground, I’d be ok with it because I would pull out my second friend… my notebook… and write about what happened during the summer or about my favorite ice cream flavors and some of my favorite foods. Sometimes if I had enough time, I would draw an illustration of my personal narratives.

When I was 9, I wrote my first book, “Importance of Literacy”. Literacy sparks imagination and the ability to make daily informed decisions. When I came up with a brilliant idea, I first wrote the ideas on index cards, and then so I wouldn’t have them flying around, I glued them to bigger pieces of paper and stapled them together…”
